 EDGE technology – now in MOLDOVA!
For the first time in the Republic of Moldova MOLDCELL subscribers can benefit from the highest data transfer rate to mobile phone by means of EDGE technology.
What is EDGE? EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) is a technology allowing fast data transfer within GSM network. MOLDCELL network configuration ensures EDGE with the speed of up to 236 kbps, which is 3 times faster than data transfer rate offered by GPRS technology. EDGE can be considered as a transition to 3G technology, which in its turn, offers the subscribers of mobile networks the possibility to benefit from certain 3G services, as for instance, high speed access to Internet, audio/video streaming, video file download, etc. Many mobile telephony operators consider EDGE an economic alternative for 3G technology.
What advantages are offered by EDGE? The biggest advantage of EDGE technology is the possibility of rapid data transfer execution, which ensures a convenient, efficient, and rapid access to Internet and WAP, as well as fast sending/reception of MMS messages, thus offering the subscribers the opportunity of reaching a higher level of mobility and productivity. In addition, EDGE offers MOLDCELL clients the opportunity of using the most advanced services like: audio/video streaming, video files download, etc. For the owners of EDGE-compatible phones who use GPRS services the churn to a new technology will be an easy and smooth process. These models of phones turn to the new technology automatically within the existing EDGE network without the need of supplimentary settings.

Who can benefit from EDGE? Any MOLDCELL subscriber owning an EDGE-compatible phone set up for GPRS and being in EDGE coverage area can benefit from this service.
What is EDGE coverage? You can check the availability of EDGE by activating CELL INFO on your mobile phone. In the region covered by EDGE, the GPRS/EDGE sign will be indicated on the screen of your mobile phone.
I have an EDGE-compatible phone. Do I need to make additional settings? In case your phone is set for GPRS, you do not need to make any other additional settings.
What transfer speed can be achieved by means of EDGE-based services usage? EDGE speed is approximately 3 times higher than the speed of GPRS and can reach up to 236 kbps. The actual connection speed may be lower due to telephone characteristics and network availability.
What EDGE-based services can I benefit from? By means of EDGE you can benefit from WAP, MMS, and MMI, content download (melodies and logos), which are also available by means of GPRS.
How is EDGE charged? There are no additional tariffs for EDGE usage. Internet and WAP via EDGE is charged the same way as via GPRS.
MMS is charged on a per-message basis. EDGE is a supplimentary platform for GPRS (EDGE being sometimes called accelerated GPRS) and therefore, all services are available for EDGE phones without any tariff charge. Thus, you have more advantages for the same money.
